James Istvanffy

James Istvanffy is an instructor at the University of Calgary employing strategy games in courses since 1989. He has organized hundreds of strategy game events, lectures and simulations. James served for over seven years in the Canadian Armed Forces (Reserves).

Istvanffy is passionate about war gaming, which he says create bonds between those who game. He says gaming helps to analyze problems, foster camaraderie, sportsmanship, and an esprit de corps.

He has successfully competed at many national and international strategy competitions over 30 years and he has written for magazines such as The General, The Wargamer, and The Canadian Wargamers Journal..
