Job Title: Communications Assistant

The Military Museums Foundation is seeking an experienced, energetic individual for a permanent part-time position of Communications Assistant.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Communications and Marketing Manager, you will,

  • Proactively identify and manage new event opportunities and facility rentals,
  • Establish working relationships with individuals and corporations that translate to increased revenues, support and awareness of the museum, and public programs and activities;
  • Plan, organize, and conduct special events;
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers;
  • Maintain a recognition program for volunteers;
  • Assist the Communications and Marketing Manager to communicate with volunteers;
  • Work with volunteers and staff to plan and execute fundraising programs and events;
  • Recruit, train, and manage special events volunteers;
  • Work with volunteers to enhance the front of house visitor experience;
  • Directly engage with customers and stakeholders on social media and digital channels;
  • Patrol the internet and personally witness what people say about the museums;
  • Conduct online surveys;
  • Plan, develop and manage sponsorships for Foundation undertakings;
  • Network with businesses to find new special events opportunities;

Additional duties as required

  • Further develop email lists to expand distribution of an eNewsletter;
  • Update eNewsletters, posters, and handout templates;
  • Work with volunteers and staff to develop and manage a strong individual corporate membership development program;
  • Proofread promotional materials;
  • Champion the museum as one of the best attractions in Calgary;
  • Help develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with related organizations;
  • Utilize a contact database and assist with contact management;
  • Assist with planning and executing a lecture series;
  • Assist the Communications and Marketing Manager with various tasks as they arise;
  • Provide assistance with other communications functions as needed;

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in events
  • Familiarity in not-for-profit environments an asset
  • Some post-secondary education in a related field;
  • Knowledge of operation of office equipment;
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, competency in Adobe Creative Suite;
  • Experience with database management;
  • Social Media experience;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong written and oral communications skills;
  • Energetic and physically capable of setting up and tearing down events;
  • Contacts and relationships in the events and corporate community;
